General

Overview

Item dependant to some extent, but the ranged builds (Bowazon and Javazon) don't need much resists and defensive mods, and are Hell viable even for starters.

Bowazon and Javazon now have elemental skills of all four kinds which synergize each other. One of Act 2 mercenaries uses Conviction. Abundant Conviction and Lower Resist items are also available. Strafe Zons and Multishot Zons also benefit from the abundant Amplify Damage items, and improved Inner Sight.

Melee Amazon builds are more challenging, but Hell viable once you can access decent gear. All melee skills except Jab can be used with any melee weapon, which greatly enlarges the option of available weapons. The best news for melee Amazons would be the improvement of D/A/E skills. They work much faster with melee weapons (especially with 2H weapons), and also grant Defense bonus.

A pseudo aura (like Assassin's Burst of Speed) which grants Enhanced Damage at the cost of IAS.
Pros
The damage bonus is huge. Especially works well with Dance of Death (Whirlwind) which isn't affected by off-weapon IAS.
Cons
The IAS penalty can be problematic with most builds. (Skill IAS is difficult to negate with Item IAS.) Overwrites and is overwritten by BoS, Fade and Shadow Armor.
Notes
Can't be used with BoS and Fade, but it's useful to use oskill BoS/Fade to cancel the remaining duration of Eagle Eye. If you use Dance of Death and Eagle Eye, and like to switch to Shadow Strike to kill PIs, you will want to cancel the effect of Eagle Eye, for example. Eagle Eye's IAS penalty is Skill IAS, which is difficult to negate with Item IAS. But the Skill IAS from Fanaticism and Annihilation effectively negates the penalty. Crossbows may be better than bows to use with Eagle Eye. Crossbows can't attain 2 frame Strafe, but attaining 3 frame Strafe is possible with Eagle Eye, and their base damage is very good.

The damage per second listed here is the same or close to that listed in the skill description (with no synergies). Whether the damage displayed is correct or triple the amount of damage actually done is under investigation. It's possible the amount of "damage per second" displayed in the skill description is actually the total damage dealt over the total duration of the fire patch, similar to the damage displayed for poison skills...if that is the case, the numbers here and in the skill description in-game will be triple the actual damage dealt (With the hitshift and amounts of damage used in skills.txt, one would expect the damage dealt to be 1/3rd of what the skill description lists...either the skill description is wrong, or there is a hidden multiplier). Update(2006.10.02): I've determined the multiplier is probably not the 3 second duration, since changing the duration has no effect on the displayed damage...it also has no effect on the displayed duration (the display still says 3 seconds, even when I increase the duration to 4 seconds), so it's still a bit inconclusive...I'll do real DOT testing in multiplayer next, to see what the actual damage is.
